Frequently asked

How long does reading take?

The first time it goes through your whole history and downloads every original photo and video, so the more Moments, the longer; you can leave it running. Later runs read only what is new, usually a quarter of an hour.

What Mac do I need?

An Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 26 or later, with 40 GB free for the first run. Intel Macs and Windows are not supported yet.

How does it log in to WeChat? Is it safe?

Fish Tank runs WeChat's official Linux client inside a sealed virtual machine; you log in by scanning with your phone, as on any new computer. It reads only the Moments you posted, never your chats, and logs out and clears the cache when it is done. WeChat's rules are WeChat's; we cannot make promises on its behalf.

What is the licence bound to? Can I use another Mac?

A licence is per WeChat account, not per Mac. On a new Mac, hand it the same licence again. One licence, one WeChat ID: the one shown in WeChat under Me › WeChat ID, or, if you never set one, the wxid shown there.

One-time licence or updates?

The one-time licence reads all your Moments from the first to the day you paid, as often as you like; later posts are not included. Updates sit on top of it and keep new posts, likes and comments flowing into the book, prepaid for a month or a year, renewed when the term ends.

What does sending to the phone need?

The Mac and the iPhone on the same Wi‑Fi. Scan the QR code on the Mac with the camera; Those Moments opens by itself and starts the transfer. If it is interrupted, it carries on next time.

I lost my licence.

The licence went to your email after payment: a link that hands it to Fish Tank with one click on the Mac, and a file you can drag into Fish Tank. If the email is gone, the order page shows the same link again, given your order number and the email you ordered with.
